The City of Dawson Creek is proposing the modification and upgrade of an existing fish ladder at the outlet weir of Bearhole Lake. Dawson Creek established a weir at the outlet of Bearhole Lake for the purpose of maintaining water levels to supplement the city’s water supply during periods of low flow. The weir has created a barrier to fish passage and a fish ladder was installed as a mitigation measure.
The purpose of the Bearhole Lake Fish Ladder Modification Project is to improve fish passage. Dawson Creek retained Ecofor to complete and environmental assessment of the project footprint. The project footprint included the access route along an existing seismic line, the modifications to the fish ladder and weir, and the laydown area. The EA summarized the results of a desktop review and field surveys conducted to assess ecosystem components that could potentially be impacted by project activities and provided recommended mitigation measures.
